BASINGSTOKE Golf Club played host to the Hampshire Girls Junior County Championships, with Emma Allen for Meon Valley taking the honours.

The event was open to players from Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands with handicaps of 20 or lower, played over 36 holes.

Junior County Captain Charlotte Barrow (Brockenhurst Manor) enjoyed an outstanding first round, breaking the ladies’ course record with a round of 69 (-3) to lead by six shots from Allen at the halfway stage.

However, the tables were turned in the afternoon, with Allen shooting 70 (-2) while Barrow fell away, a second round of 78 (+6) allowing Allen to overtake and beat her by two shots.

Third place went to home golfer Tara O’Herlihy, who beat Dummer’s Katy Mackworth-Pread on countback. Another Basingstoke player, Lucy O’Herlihy, finished third in the handicap competition, behind winner Adrian Mylrea and Barrow.
