BEECHDOWN were crowned Basingstoke and District Badminton League Knock Out Cup winners after they beat Viking in the final at Costello School.
The Beechdown team of Lisa Moran, Andrea Jefferies, Sandra Smith, Dan Sheppard, Pete Leeds and Keith Palmer won a well-contested final.
The Viking team of Juliet McAskill, Julie Shawley, Helen Wilcox, Tim Cooper, Simon Williamson and Michael Nash took an early lead. But Beechdown fought back and, after the men’s and ladies’ doubles, led 218-214.
They finished the job when success in the mixed doubles secured a 332-321 overall victory.
Beechdown received a bye into the final after Phoenix were unable to face them in the semi-final.
In the only semi-final, Andover Sports lost to Viking in an exciting and close match. After the men’s and ladies’ doubles, Viking led by four points going into the mixed games.
Viking players Shawley and Nash took an early lead and held on to make the final score 329-316.
