SKEWERS were crowned champions of Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division One after seeing off nearest rivals Bramley United last Wednesday.

Sam Cato played Simon Jane through to put Skewers ahead on 15 minutes and while Ben Squibb levelled for Bramley early in the second half, Cato netted what proved to be the winner soon afterwards to clinch the title.

Worse followed for Bramley on Saturday, when they were beaten 4-0 by Tadley Calleva A, a result that saw them move out of contention for promotion.

Simon Penfold put Tadley ahead early on and he added a second from the penalty spot on the hour. Further goals from Stephen Burgess and Shaun Dallimore completed the scoring to secure second place and promotion for Calleva.

In the Premier Division, runners-up New Inn were unable to fulfil their final fixture against Hook, who finish third as a result.

The winners of the Basingstoke and District Saturday and Sunday leagues will do battle in the Knightsbridge Garage All Champions Cup at Winklebury on Sunday (kick-off 11am).

Saturday League Premier Division Champions Welly Old Boys will take on Sunday League Division One winners Sporting Silchester in the game, which traditionally brings the curtain down on the season.
