BASINGSTOKE powerlifters Andy Bonner and Jean Maton both won medals at the British Masters Powerlifting Championships in Horncastle.
Bonner, competing in the Masters 2 (age 50-plus) 93kg class, won gold with a total of 670kg with a squat 247.5kg – a new British record – followed by a bench press of 150kg and dead lift of 272.5kg.
Maton won a silver medal in the Masters 2 84kg class and started off brilliantly with an equal personal-best squat of 180kg, followed by a bench press of 112.5kg.
The lifter ended up with a 180kg deadlift after attempting to lift 187.5kg, which would have won her gold, and had to settle for 472.5kg.
Maton’s next competition is the European Masters Powerlifting Championships in Pilzen, Czech Republic.
