Saints fans have the chance to crown the finest season of Adam Lallana’s career as the voting opens for the Daily Echo Player of the Season award.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has had another brilliant year at St Mary’s, establishing himself as one of the hottest talents in the Premier League and taking himself to the verge of a place in England’s World Cup squad this summer.

Lallana has risen through the ranks at Saints and also achieved the unique accolade of being named in the PFA team of the year in League One, the Championship and now the Premier League while at the club.

There are said to be Premier League giants sniffing around ahead of potential offers for the star this summer as the board face a raft of questions as to the future direction of the club.

But for now the fans have the chance to reward Lallana’s performances with his first Daily Echo Player of the Season award.

Lallana will face stiff competition.

It has been a fine season for Mauricio Pochettino’s men and there are other outstanding candidates.

Jay Rodriguez has top scored with 18 goals in all competitions before his horrible knee injury.

Rickie Lambert is looking to equal Matthew Le Tissier’s record of winning the famous old trophy three times after another fine campaign.

Luke Shaw has had an outstanding breakthrough season, while the likes of Dejan Lovren, Jose Fonte, defending champion Morgan Schneiderlin and Steven Davis have also been stand out performers.

The Daily Echo award was first awarded back in 1973-74, when Mick Channon was voted the top man that season by the fans, and has the names of Saints greats such as Peter Shilton, Alan Ball and Kevin Keegan etched onto it, meaning whoever wins is joining an elite club.
