More bench frustration for Saints loanee Dani Osvaldo in the Europa League

Dani Osvaldo

Dani Osvaldo

First published in Sport

SAINTS loanee Dani Osvaldo was restricted to just a handful of minutes as Juventus lost the first leg of their Europa League semi final 2-1 at Benfica last night.

Substitute Lima struck late to give the newly-crowned Portuguese champions a 2-1 win.

Ezequiel Garay put the hosts ahead in the third minute only for Juventus striker Carlos Tevez to end his long European goal drought in the 73rd minute.

Lima then ensured that Benfica will take an advantage for the return leg in Italy next week by scoring six minutes from time.

Osvaldo, whose only two goals for Juve since joining them on loan from Saints at the end of January came in the Europa League, came on as an 82nd minute sub for Tevez.

It never look promising in the first place ! When he Punch Fonte in the face that was it ! Who now will pay the silly asking price set by some idiot at Saint Mary's who is probably clueless and I don't know anything about transfer market ! The club want 19 up to 20 million I understand they want their money back and make some profit but it will never happen !. I mean Osvaldo is 28 or 29 with a bad temper and he's a bench warmer at Saints and Juventus not a chance to sale him. I still can't believe people on here were saying in some article this week that he will go for 20 million. I'm afraid we are stuck with him or the club must be prepare to make a massive because right now is true value is 5 up 7 million. If he can have a good world cup and score a few goals there then maybe he can go for a higher price but asking for 19 up to 20 million that was just stupid !

The best we can do is to use him as a make-weight in a transfer for a player we do want, there must be an option somewhere in Europe.
Otherwise cut our losses or send him out on a season loan somewhere.
Whatever, it does not seem possible for him to come back here, but you never know, Puncheon did it !

To be clear, Juventus have already agreed a fee of 18 million Euro to buy Osdildo; but under the terms of the loan it is only an option to buy. They have the right to send him back to us, and they have to decide what to do before the World Cup, where he might (or might not) put in some good performances.

To me this seems to be the key to our transfer strategy during the summer. Will we have got rid of him and have 18 million Euro to play with in the transfer market? Or will he be back with us, with his ridiculous wages draining our finances?

I have said that all along after his fight with Fonte that guy will be back with us the asking price is ridiculous seriously ! There's no way we get close to 18 million let alone 10 million unless he score 12 or 13 goals at the world cup if he goes which I doubt ! So in the summer he'll be back with us and He's gonna be our 3rd striker after Lambert and Gallagher.

Hmm, Osvaldo has hardly impressed at Juve and with his feisty reputation I doubt we'll get back what we paid for him.
The club will just have to settle for a loss or take him back and educate him a bit.
Poch did say at one point earlier this season that he thought his squad were losing out on refereeing decisions because his players were "too nice", well Dani has plenty of aggression (love that picture of him in John Terry's face), there may still yet be a role for him at this club if he can chip in with the kind of goals he scored against Man City (not many strikers in the world can dump Vincent Kompany on his bottom.......)

I think it's obvious the price was 'optimistic' and depended on him playing brilliantly for Juventus. He hasn't, so he'll be back, or we'll be moving him on at a loss. It happens. I can't understand your excitement/anger over it.

There's no anger or excitement over this It's the asking price that make me laugh because Osvaldo is not RVP who was sold to Man U for 32 million as a 30 year old and nobody will buy somebody who has issue and 29 years old for 20 million. Like I said the asking price is just laughable I just hope he does well at the world cup if he goes but at the moment Insigne from Napoli is going to the world cup not Osvaldo so yes we are stuck with that guy !

If he comes back, which I think he will, then Poch only has two choices, sit him down and give him one last chance to show he can play nice over pre-season and earn his place back, or tell him he has no future, get to Les Reed and sell him for whatever we can get.

It's Jason Puncheon all over again, but with a much bigger price tag and salary.

Personally, I think he has no route back.

he headbutted jose he didn't punch him!
£20mill where have you got that figure from? the fee is set at £15.6mill (under 19mill euros). your valuation, and it is just yours, of £5-£7mill or 6-85mill euros is an opinion not fact. other people have their own opinion and are just as entitled to theirs as you are yours, why do you get so annoyed when people quote the current agreed fee of £15.6mill? you don't have to agree with it but that's the current fee and you don't know if juve will take their option, nor do I. I though have never said what I think his value is, you see I don't know what any other clubs would be willing to pay.
if you claim to know so much about the transfer market, and it seems you think you know so much more than the highly paid professional team of employees of Southampton fc, why don't you submit your CV to Ralph?
I have never seen anyone claim he will go for £20mill, can you point out where you have? people might quote the asking fee because that is the asking fee and its the only fee that's a fact at the moment.
bad boy players get brought and sold all the time, Mario balotelli wouldn't have been sold to milan if they weren't. age isn't a factor either, at 28/29 a club could still get 5/6+ years out of him (he is 28 by the way!). or are you suggesting that players aged 28 and over don't get sold? eto was 32ish (could be more according to jose) when chelski signed him on £7mill a year wages!
why it bothers you what saints fans think about one of their players is beyond me. as a self confessed arsenil fan you should be more concerned about your own clubs dealings, £42.5mill for Ozil, really? do you think hes worth anywhere near that? Kim Källström? do you think its good sense to sign a player on loan for 3.5 months despite knowing he had a serious back injury that, in the end, kept him out for over half the time hes with you. that's 2 months wages and rehabilitation costs down the drain on a player that wasn't around when needed and has only started to play after it might be too late to help you qualify for the champs league. I wonder how much money you have thrown away getting a player back to fitness for another club?
Osvaldo will not be back at sms. he will either be sold (maybe for a loss maybe not) or loaned out again, we have the whole summer to ort it out!
if dani is sold for a loss then so be it, teams do make a loss on some players, it happens so theres no point getting all worked up about it.
you really shouldn't get so wound up about the whole thing, you have your opinion so let others have theirs and don't keep calling people stupid because they have different views on their club to you!

Osvaldo will not be back at sms. he will either be sold (maybe for a loss maybe not) or loaned out again, we have the whole summer to ort it out! if dani is sold for a loss then so be it, teams do make a loss on some players, it happens so theres no point getting all worked up about it. you really shouldn't get so wound up about the whole thing, you have your opinion so let others have theirs and don't keep calling people stupid because they have different views on their club to you! el caballo santos101
