THE Basingstoke District Badminton League Open tournament took place at The Costello School, with Jenny Ross/Claire Workman from Wycombe winning the ladies event.
There were six pairs in the section, with all games played up to 21 points.
Top seeds, Ross/Workman won all their games, three of them being by only one or two points. Reading’s Emma Penn/Jovaynne Teh lost just one league point to finish runners-up.
Basingstoke’s Gina and Linda Rapacioli were a close third with 80 points, while Rachel Jackson/Jo Hiller from Swindon and Newbury’s Katie Woods/Alex Woods finished on 60 and 59 points respectively.
Sadly, Basingstoke’s Cathryn Perkins, playing with Fiona Garnett, suffered an injured ankle in their second game and had to withdraw.
A closely-fought final ended with a 21-19 win for Wycombe’s Ross/Workman.
