NORTH Warnborough II are within touching distance of claiming second place in Basingstoke and District Sunday League Division Three after recording two big wins.
Dan Mellors smashed in a brace, while Ryan Thorpe and Jon Ugarte were also among the scorers as Chineham Athletic were beaten 4-0 last Tuesday, while Railway Inn were thrashed 9-1 on Sunday.
Trevor Rogers, Jamie Simmons and Billy Shepherd all scored twice, while Pete Keens, Malcolm Rogers and Mellors were the other scorers.
Warnborough will secure the runners-up spot if they avoid a heavy defeat against table-toppers FC Everest in their final game, but the champions showed little sign of taking things easy on Sunday, battering Golden Lion 10-2.
Alex Spencer found the net four times, James Harris hit a hat-trick and Matt Cavenagh, Jake Tanner and Scott Kinge also scored for Everest, with Luke Manton and James Lowe replying for Golden Lion.
