SPORTING Silchester claimed the Basingstoke and District Sunday League Division One title with a 2-0 victory over Kaiser Wessex.

Kevin Hill scored both goals in the second half on Sunday, with one coming from the penalty spot, as Silchester secured top spot.

They had been made to wait by Tron, who beat them 2-1 last Tuesday to put the party on hold, Jamie Smith and Jesse Todd getting their goals.

Tron went on to secure second place by drawing 1-1 with Basingstoke Sports and Social last Thursday and beating CI 2-1 on Sunday.

Andy Butler gave Sports and Social the lead last Thursday, only for Ross Soper-Dyer to level, while Sammie Aldoori and Soper-Dyer got the goals in the win over CI, who beat Dayer’s Fine Foods 6-1 last Tuesday.

Dayer’s were involved in another high-scoring game on Sunday, drawing 4-4 with Republic of Chineham despite only being able to field nine players.

Carl Pearson equalised twice to ensure that the teams were level at 2-2 going in to half-time. Chineham went ahead twice more after the break, but each time they were pegged back, with first Alex Brown and then Alan Spacagna levelling for Dayer’s.

There were even more goals in the game between Basingstoke Saints and Basingstoke Sports and Social last Tuesday.

A Freddie Cloke double and Butler’s goal had Sports 3-2 up at half-time. Saints levelled but Cloke completed his hat-trick, while Alex Izzo and Andrew McCarthy also scored to put Sports 6-3 ahead.

Saints pulled two back but were unable to draw level, losing 6-5. Louis Woodman hit a hat-trick for the losers, with Rick Pike bagging a brace.
