IT’S all to play-off for as Basingstoke Bison go hunting for their second piece of silverware.

The EPL Cup final winners will be among four teams battling it out in the English Premier League play-off finals in Coventry this weekend.

The first team standing in the way of the Herd are local rivals Guildford Flames in a semi-final showdown on Saturday (face-off 5pm).

The Bison are in action in the second game of the day – the first one starts at 1pm when league champions Manchester Phoenix lock horns with Swindon Wildcats.

The winners of both games will then meet to decide the destination of the winner’s trophy on Sunday (face-off 4pm).

The Herd will be hoping to make it a double-winning season after their EPL Cup success last month.

Bison player/coach Doug Sheppard said: “Everyone is very excited about the weekend, and we would love to win another cup for us and our great fans.”

The Herd have enjoyed great success against their Surrey rivals this season with a 5-1 English Premier League series win and then an EPL Cup semi-final victory.

However, this will count for nothing come Saturday in a one off winner takes all clash.

Last season, the Bison suffered the heartache of losing in the semi-final after a penalty shoot-out to Manchester who then went on to beat Guildford to take the play-off crown.

They face a Flames team who have recovered from a mid-season injury crisis and knocked out many people’s play-off favourites Telford Tigers last weekend.

One of the major factors in their change of fortunes is their new netminder Gregg Rockman, a play-off winner with Herd boss Doug Sheppard, when they pair played for Slough in 2012.

Bison player/coach Sheppard said: “We have seen them a number of times this season, but not for a while.

“They look to be in good form and I am expecting an extremely tight game.”
