Manchester City’s top scorer Sergio Aguero has cast doubt on whether he will be fit enough to face Saints on Saturday.
Aguero, who has scored 26 goals for Premier League title-chasing City this term, has been out since suffering a hamstring injury in the Champions League loss at Barcelona on March 12.
It is his third setback of an otherwise outstanding season following previous calf and hamstring problems.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini hinted last week that Aguero could be fit to face Saints at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League this Saturday but the player himself - also crucial to Argentina's World Cup campaign - is cautious.
The 25-year-old said: “With this recovery I am trying to do my best to be able to play again, but I cannot do it in a hurry.
“I do think to myself if something happens now, I will lose the rest of the Premier League season and the World Cup.”
