Luke Shaw could already be the best left back in the world, according to Mauricio Pochettino.

Shaw has been linked with most of the top clubs over the last few months, the latest being Real Madrid.

Pochettino said he liked the speculation over his teenage star and that praised his current ability and his potential.

“He can play at Real Madrid or the World starting XI. He really has the quality to do so,” said Pochettino.

When asked if he was already one of the best left back in the world he added: “I am not sure if he is one already. I think so.

“I am not sure if he is already the best one in the world.”

Come on Roy you know it makes sense. Cole has had his time and squandered it with the rest of the old guard. Let's move forward.

A bit of an exaggeration by Poch but he shows he has a sense of humour before they both leave the club.

I sincerely hope Saints can hold on to this boy and build the team round team round him and Llalana, there is huge pressure on the board now to prove to the world that the club is serious about making the top four they need these players to do it and others yet to be recruited. Saints simply have to buy big at least two top top players in the summer if they are to challenge at the very top. No point in selling Shaw now he will be worth 50 million after the world cup so why sell for half. Best option is not to sell bt use the fact that we have him to attract more top players to the club. We were not lucky with Osvaldo, but we can sell him and buy another. William Carvalho at Sporting and Rafa at Braga would be near the top of my list. Plus a top forward. Come on Saints you can do this....

Spot on.. We will soon find out the true ambition of the club but I feel too many supporters are over optimistic.

No pressure on the teenager then?

Whatever happens over the summer, the media are doing their very best to build up the plinth he's standing on.
The easier to take potshots later for even the smallest mistake.
He is going to get pressure wherever he is.
I think he would be better off at Saints for at least one more year.
Who knows, we might even win something next season!!
and convince him to stay long term.

MP is making sure that any club interested in trying to take Shaw know that he considers him "one of the best in the world".

Or, in other words, any fees offered need to reflect his opinion, not that of the press who have already sold him, in some cases, for as little as £10 million.

If the club had serious ambitions then he should not be available would you not think ?

Do you know, I think the club hierarchy have actually had more ambition than the fans these last few seasons.

Only a minority of neggies I think, most have the optimism and ambition but are afraid to say so. The only way we are going to see what the new ambitions are, will be what happens in the Summer window, that will indicate onwards and upwards, status quo, or down we go. Doing nothing is likely to lead to the latter. As is selling off the family jewels, unless it is used to fund improvement. I defy the posters that keep saying Poch will go, Shaw will go, Lallana will go, to produce evidence and a solid sources for their offerings, I cannot find anything concrete about the subject at all and I spend enough time surfing for information. Lazy speculation is just upsetting and mostly on a wind up.

Why are people on here so bothered about England ?? I Couldn't give a monkeys , we(england) have a rubbish manager , playing dreary boring football which is going to get us absolutely NOWHERE .

frankly the thoughts of that ugly rodent rooney lifting the world cup would ruin any satisfaction i might get from it .

Wouldn't it be better for young Shaw to keep his feet on the ground without the pressure and expectation of playing for England so soon ?

Wouldn't rest and recuperation be better for J Rodriguez rather than coming back in August worn out ?

And the same for Lambert ...at his age he needs a summer off.

reluctantly i think Lallana should go , because he will play and he is in his prime , but i hope all the others stay and are 100% fit and ready for next season

F**k England . Up Southampton

Would you not think...that Spuds would have (not) let Bale go, ManU would (not) have let Ronaldo go, jrod11 would (not) engage brain before clicking the keyboard?
Obviously (not!)
There are many reasons for players, managers moving on, and they're NOT always just the ones that the media or you immediately think(not)
Does this sound a bit negative, or does a double negative make a positive (not)?
