BASINGSTOKE Bison completed their league campaign with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Milton Keynes Lightning on Sunday night.

The home side opened the scoring as Andy Melachrino netted Tomas Karpov’s rebound at 6:44.

Later in the first period, Karpov tested MK goalie Stephen Wall twice in a matter of seconds and Joe Rand also forced a save from the netminder.

The second session saw the Bison double their lead, as Ciaran Long scored from close range.

The Bison young Brit line of Danny Ingoldsby, Stuart Mogg and Cameron Wynn saw plenty of ice time during the game and carved out a good chance for Wynn soon after.

Basingstoke goalie Dean Skinns produced a nice save at the back post to deny MK’s man-of-the-match Janne Jokila.

The Herd then made it 3-0 after a superb flowing move which involved Doug Sheppard and Nicky Chinn saw Joe Rand net his own rebound at 34:56.

The first goal of the final period went to the Lightning, as a lovely drop pass from Stanislav Lascek saw Tom Carlon fire through the legs of Skinns.

The home side wrapped up the scoring at 50:03, on the powerplay, thanks to a clinical blue line strike from man-of-the-match Long.

The Bison now turn their attentions to the play-off and a quarter-final clash with the Sheffield Steeldogs.

The first game is in Yorkshire on Saturday, with the return on Sunday in Basingstoke (face-off 5.30pm).
