GLENN Maxwell today gave Hampshire fans a mouthwatering indication of what they can expect this summer.

The big-hitting all-rounder blasted 74 off only 33 balls for Australia against Pakistan in the t20 World Cup in Bangladesh.

Maxwell, who came to the crease with his country 8-2 off six balls, cracked five fours and five sixes in reaching his 50 off only 18 balls.

That is the joint third-fastest century in t20 international cricket history.

It was also easily Maxwell’s highest t20 international score, beating his previous best of 27.

With Aaron Finch hitting 65 off 54 balls, Australia raced to 146-3 chasing their 192 victory target.

But ex-Hampshire man Shahid Afridi had Maxwell caught and then dismissed another Rose Bowl batsman, Australian captain George Bailey (4). Australia lost their last seven wickets for 29 runs to finish 175 all out.

Maxwell recently announced that he was coming back to Hampshire this summer to play t20 cricket, after appearing for Surrey in 2013.
