BASINGSTOKE RFC suffered a bad day at the office as they lost 67-19 at Tring.

The home side raced to a 34-0 advantage by the break, as the bounces went their way and the missed tackled cost the visitor’s dear.

Tring took the lead after a minute from Zak Michalski and soon after it became 12-0 as Tom Newton went over.

He converted his own try, which the first of his seven successful conversions for the afternoon.

’Stoke then had their first period of pressure in the home side’s 22, but this came to nothing, and after a scrum was won against the head, Tring scored again from Tom French.

A Newton penalty extended the lead to 20-0, after the visitors had defended well on their own line.

The home side added two more converted tries by the break, thanks to Michalski and John Preston.

Tring’s speedy winger Sam Barnes with his first of four tries opened the second-half scoring.

The visitors then got themselves on the scoreboard, after some nice phrases allowed Rob Clark to score and Ryan Trevaskis kicked the extras to make it 41-7.

The home side replied with another three tries two from Barnes and one from Michalski.

The sides were then reduced to 14-a-side after ’Stoke’s Ryan Davis was shown a yellow card for retaliation.

This was after Tring’s Tomas Mowbray caught Andy Hore with his elbow in his throat which also earned him a yellow card on 62 minutes.

The visitors then had a good spell as Trevaskis converted his own try and then Steve Osborne scored after ’Stoke drove a line-out over.

The final word went to the home side, as winger Barnes went over for fourth to complete the 67-19 victory.

This Saturday, ’Stoke entertain Barnes in a crunch game at Down Grange.
