Basingstoke Bison player/coach Doug Sheppard said: "It was a disappointing defeat, but we hope to bounce back tomorrow."

As Sheffield beat Slough 7-3 tonight they will face Basingstoke in the play-off quarter-finals next week. The first leg being away on Saturday in Yorkshire on Saturday. The return is in Basingstoke on Sunday.

The other quarter-final ties are Manchester v Bracknell, Guildford v Telford and Milton Keynes v Swindon.

Swindon take the win and the league series 4-2 as the Herd could not find a way past Lyle.

The victory clinched fifth spot for the Wildcats and will now play MK in the play-offs next weekend.

The Bison still have to wait to see if they face Sheffield or Bracknell as both sides are still playing at the moment.

More bad news for the Bison is Michael Wales has been carried off the ice. Hope it is not as bad as it looks and he back for play-off weekend. It is a suspected broken ankle it is such a shame if it is true.

The Bison kill the double powerplay helped by a penalty on Lyle. Swindon then swap their goalies as Martin Crisp takes over from Lyle in the Swindon net at 53:57.
