LODDON Vale suffered a surprise 115-113 shot defeat to the outdoor bowlers of Tongham.
The Vale winning skips were Alan Smith (33-13), Mick Jones (17-14) and Jim Rainbow (24-13).
The losing rinks were Ernie Sparrow-hawk (22-17), Paul Knowles (25-13) and John Hilton (28-9).
President Bob White is holding his President’s day on Sunday and the following day there is a friendly match against the Essex County President’s Tour team, which starts at 10am.
Vale’s conquerors in the Wessex League play-offs, Bournemouth, lost in the quarter-finals to Exonia from Exeter 84-37.
The other results from the last eight saw Cotswold beat Dolphin 105-55, while Kingsthorpe overcame Plymouth (81-42) and last year’s winners Clarrie Dunbar saw off Mid Glos 83-62.
