Basingstoke and District Saturday League cup round-up
LUKE Richardson was the star of the show as title rivals New Inn and Basingstoke Royals met in the quarter-finals of the Basingstoke A Cup on Saturday.
Basingstoke and District Saturday League Premier Division leaders New Inn came out on top, beating second-placed Royals 4-2, with Richardson scoring all four goals, to set up a semi-final against Hook.
Richardson got the first goal from an Alex Spencer cross after five minutes and doubled the lead with a lobbed finish, before completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot.
Second-half goals from Craig Barker and Ama Bhuller got Royals back into the game but Richardson made the game safe with a cheeky back-heel.
Wayne Barlow's corner forced an own-goal that put Overton ahead but Sam Bernard levelled the game just before half-time. However, late goals from Neil Ryan and Scotty Winterbourne saw the underdogs through.
Welly Old Boys Reserves needed extra-time to beat Bramley United 3-2 and reach the semi-finals of the North Hants Junior Cup, where they will play Andover League outfit Sparten.
Welly's Danny Costen got the only goal of the first half but Bramley levelled with 15 minutes to go, Harry Elliott netting with an overhead kick to force extra-time.
Goals from Ashley Burchett and Martin Dawes had Welly 3-1 ahead in the additional period and while Ben Squibb pulled one back from the penalty spot, Bramley were unable to get on terms.
The final of the North Hants May Cup will be an all-Andover League affair after Pure Spartan were beaten 5-1 by Kingsclere.
