TADLEY Calleva are up to sixth in the Wessex League Division One table after a Brett Denham goal gave them a 1-0 win over visiting Laverstock and Ford on Saturday.

The game was goal-less at half-time but it was Tadley who had the best chance as Ash Roberts was denied by the visiting goalkeeper and James Milford put the rebound over the crossbar.

Denham went close after the break before giving his side the lead on 70 minutes, running on to Henry Johnson’s through-ball before rounding the goalkeeper and slotting into the empty net.

The same player almost doubled the lead soon after, his header crashing against the crossbar, and while Laverstock pressed late on, Tadley held on to ground out an important win.

Manager Danny Dolan said: “It was a pleasing result but we did not play particularly well. The busy schedule seemed to catch up with us a bit but the lads worked hard and could have put the game to bed earlier.”

Tadley face a trip to the Isle of Wight to take on Cowes Sports, who sit third in the table, tomorrow night.
