Nick Saunders hat-trick guides DJS to victory
NICK Saunders hit a hat-trick as DJS Telecoms recorded a 7-2 win over AFC Berg in Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division Two.
Pete Lomax and Dan Deadman had DJS two up in the early stages, before Saunders got off the mark with two of his own. Kieran Alleyne notched twice for Berg, either side of Saunders’ hat-trick strike, with DJS substitutes Steve Carter and Lee Neal completing the scoring.
Overton United B moved to the top of the table for the first time this season thanks to the 3-1 home win against AFC Aldermaston A. Oliver Birch had them ahead at the break, while Darren White’s penalty and Duncan Leahy’s header made it 3-0 before Ben Jones’ late consolation strike.
Bounty United are up to second after a 7-0 win at Sherborne St John Reserves, with Mitchell Stokes the star of the show.
His long throw resulted in Craig Williamson putting Bounty ahead and it was also his cross that handed Williamson his second of the game. Mike Gilham made it 3-0 before half-time.
Stokes smashed in a quickfire hat-trick early in the second half, with Matt Love completing the scoring 10 minutes before the end.
Cup heroes Bengal Brasserie beat Basingstoke Labour Club 2-0. Kye Buckland opened the scoring on the half-hour, while lowly Labour lost Leon Duly to a red card after the break and Leon O’Neil made the points safe with 17 minutes left.
Basingstoke Athletic extended their unbeaten run to five games with a 1-1 draw against Twenty-Ten. Joe Osborne gave Twenty-Ten the lead in the second half but Nathan Reed’s free-kick rescued a point for Athletic five minutes from time.
