BUCKSKIN darts ace Paul Hogan suffered final-leg agony at the Coral UK Open earlier today, losing 9-8 to former world champion Mark Webster at Butlins Minehead Resort.
The 50-year-old caused a massive upset by beating three-time world champion John Part yesterday, following that win up with a victory over young Dutch player Benito van de Pas to reach today’s fourth round.
There he faced 2008 BDO world champion Webster, and it looked like the occasion had got to the Basingstoke man as he lost five of the first seven legs.
However, Hogan then hit back, winning five consecutive legs to lead 7-5, but Webster recovered and the duo were locked at 8-8 going into the final leg.
Hogan, nicknamed Crocodile Dundee, had chances to make it through to the last 16, missing match darts, and Webster made him pay.
Despite the defeat, it has been an excellent couple of days for Hogan, who had to take part in a qualifying tournament to take part in the event.
He began with a 5-2 victory over Adam Cousins before playing some top darts to beat Canadian Part 5-0 in round two, going on to claim a 9-3 win over van de Pas last night to reach the last 32.
