THE BASINGSTOKE Bison made it five wins on the trot as they beat the visiting Slough Jets 6-2.

The home side dominated from start to finish, but Slough’s man-of-the-match netminder Andrej Vasiljevic, kept them in the game until the final 20 minutes.

The Bison out-shot the visitors 21-4 in the opening session, but only led 1-0 from Andy Melachrino.

In a more even start to the second period, Alan Lack equalised as he fired into the roof of the net.

The turning point of the game was when Slough had their first full powerplay of the night.

To allow them to ice their three import skaters, they swapped their import netminder with Cardiff-born Joe Myers.

The Welsh goalie in trying to stop Joe Greener scoring shorthanded, was adjudged to have thrown his stick and penalty shot was awarded.

Slough swapped their netminders back, but some superb stick work from Ciaran Long saw him slot home at 31:51.

From then on the home side were back in control, but the score did not reflect this until the final period.

The Herd scored twice in the opening six minutes from Joe Rand and Nicky Chinn to make it 4-1.

Slough pulled a goal back from Lack, as he tapped in at the post. This kept the Jets hopes alive and they pulled their goalie with 76 seconds left.

Tempers boiled over soon after as Lack slashed Bison netminder Dean Skinns. He reacted by throwing a couple of punches, but once the dust had settled there were no penalties.

With 39.6 seconds left on the clock, the game was made safe as Tomas Karpov fired into the empty net.

The icing on the cake was the Bison’s sixth goal, as the Herd’s young Brit line combined for Stuart Mogg to score assisted by Cameron Wynn and Danny Ingoldsby, just a second before the final buzzer.

Tonight, Basingstoke will look to complete a quick double over Slough as they travel to the Hangar.
