Jay Rodriguez has done it once every 211 minutes in the Premier League this season.

Rickie Lambert has managed it once every 220 minutes.

Take away his penalties and free-kicks, and Lambert has achieved the feat once every 396 minutes.

In case you are wondering, those are the average times between their top flight goals in 2013/14.

In comparison, Daniel Sturridge arrives at St Mary’s on Saturday averaging a goal every 81 minutes in the Premier League this season.

That is a record better than any other player in any of Europe’s top five leagues with the exception of Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, who is averaging a goal every 80 minutes.

Sturridge’s Anfield partner, Luis Suarez, is not far behind – averaging a goal every 86 minutes.

Suarez is the highest scoring player across the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga and La Ligue this season.

Madrid pair Cristiano Ronaldo and Diego Costa – from Real and Atletico respectively – have 22 and 21 league goals to their credit.

However, unlike Suarez, both of those players have been on penalty taking duty.

Ronaldo has converted five spot-kicks in his 22-goal La Liga haul, while Costa has four penalties in his tally.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, like Ronaldo, has 22 goals for Paris St Germain in La Ligue.

But seven of the Swede’s league goals have arrived via the penalty spot.

Suarez is actually on something of a goal drought with just one in his last eight league and cup outings.

But his efforts have helped Liverpool to become the Premier League’s top scorers this season.
