BASINGSTOKE Town Ladies suffered a 5-1 defeat away at Maidenhead United on Sunday.
An own-goal from Lauren Butler gave the hosts the lead after just 10 minutes and, while Carla Mitchell and Josette Pearmine both went close for Town, Maidenhead scored twice more to lead 3-0 at half-time.
A fourth goal followed on 50 minutes but Town were inches away from pulling a goal back minutes later, Katie Hempton’s shot from distance smacking into the post.
Mitchell did get Basingstoke on the scoresheet with an hour on the clock, finding the net from 30 yards, but Maidenhead had the final word, making it 5-1 with 13 minutes left.
The result leaves Town sixth in the Southern League Premier Division table ahead of a trip to Division One high-flyers Stony Stratford in the league cup this Sunday.
