MANAGER Gary Stockwell made a rare appearance to fire New Inn to the quarter-finals of the Hampshire Junior A Cup with a 4-2 victory away at Andover New Street Swifts on Saturday.

Barney Powell pounced on a mistake by the Andover goalkeeper to put New Inn ahead and Luke Richardson's strike had the visitors two goals up after just 30 minutes.

Andover pulled a goal back before half-time and levelled in the final minute of the match to force extra-time, where New Inn found an unlikely match-winner in Stockwell. Penalties were looming before he scored twice, the second a screamer from 25 yards.

Hook also needed extra-time as they overcame visiting Tadley Calleva A to reach the semi-finals of the same competition.

Jon Noakes took a pass from Nathan Kill to put Hook ahead but second-half strikes from Stephen Burgess and Gary Hibbs had Tadley ahead and things looked bleak for the hosts as they lost Kill to a red card.

However, despite only having 10 men, Hook levelled through Charlie Page in the last minute and won the game late in the extra period, Tom Davies scoring the crucial goal.

DJS Telecoms crashed out of the Hampshire Junior B Cup, losing 5-2 to visiting Isle of Wight side Bembridge in the semi-finals.

Allan Morgan headed in a Lee Neal corner to give DJS the lead and while Bembridge levelled, the hosts were ahead at the break thanks to Morgan's penalty.

However, a crazy 10 minute spell, in which DJS conceded two spot-kicks and had Kevin Banning sent off, saw the visitors through.

Basingstoke Twenty-Ten brushed aside Bengal Brasserie to reach the semi-finals of the North Hants Junior Cup.

Bengal had won the previous two meetings between the sides this season, but Twenty-Ten led 5-0 at the break thanks to doubles from Ryan Lupton and Carl Pearson and a Joe Hill strike.

Pearson completed his hat-trick with a lob on 50 minutes, with substitute Alfie Bissett making the final score 7-0.

There was a closer game between Sherborne St John and Welly Old Boys in the Basingstoke A Cup.

Alex Roberts' diving header and Ibrahin Waheed's goal had Sherborne 2-0 up at the break. Welly did better in the second half, Ben Nicholls having a goal scrubbed out for offside and Ryan Evans heading against the crossbar, but that was as close as they got.

Pure Spartan are through to the semi finals of the North Hants May Cup after beating Hook Reserves on penalties.

Hook took the lead when Pete Sylvester converted a penalty but Steve Tickner, who had given away the spot-kick, made amends by heading home a corner, while Russ Mortlock's goal had Pure 2-1 up.

Tickner gave away a second penalty and Sylvester converted to force extra-time, which passed without major incident.

Pure scored all four of the kicks in the shoot-out, with Mortlock, Russell Williams, Jake Burrows and Andy McCormick all netting. Loz Wright and Jack McKee scored for Hook, but misses from Tony Foster and Sylvester gave Pure a 4-2 win on penalties.

Hampshire Irons were unable to join Pure in the last four, losing 5-4 at home to Kings Somborne. The visitors led 2-0 early on and while Jay Greene missed a penalty for Irons, Kieran Dent did pull a goal back before the break.

Goals from Greene and James Arnold had Irons 3-2 up early in the second half. Somborne levelled but a Greene free-kick had Irons back in front at 4-3, only for two goals in the final five minutes to knock them out.
