BASINGSTOKE’S young skating star Danielle Harrison enjoyed a trip of a lifetime, skating with two of the sport’s legends – Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean – in Sarajevo.

This was part of a special show to celebrate 30 years since Torvill and Dean won Winter Olympics gold with their Bolero routine in the city.

The evening comprised a show in front of a sell-out 5,000 audience, in which local skaters performed in the first half and then, after the break, eight British eight skaters took to the ice including Harrison, from Winklebury, before Torvill and Dean performed their iconic Bolero routine.

All of the skaters then returned to take part in the show’s finale and 14-year-old Harrison said: “It was a brilliant trip. In fact, it was the highlight of my ice skating career so far.

“The first time we met Torvill and Dean was when they just walked into our changing room and it was amazing. We also got to talk to them after the show as they were staying at the same hotel as us.”

The Everest Community Academy pupil, who is backed by Planet Ice and trains at the Basingstoke Arena, added: “It was a great atmosphere to skate in and I really enjoyed being out on the ice. It was also nice to watch Bolero live.”
