WELLY Old Boys and Hook finally managed to play their much-postponed Hampshire Junior A Cup fourth round tie after arranging to use the artificial pitch at Queen Mary's College.

The surface clearly suited Hook, who emerged 6-1 winners, but it was a tight first half. Tom Davies put Hook ahead from the penalty spot and while Will Hill's handball gave Welly the chance to reply in kind five minutes later, stand-in Hook goalkeeper Andy Parker made the save.

Hook doubled their lead in the early stages of the second half, Phil Haig netting after John Lancashire's shot had been parried by the Welly goalkeeper, while Lancashire made it 3-0 himself soon after.

Welly pulled a goal back through Ben Nicholls but Lancashire's second of the match made it 4-1, while another strong run from Hook's star player led to Aaron King adding a fifth.

Substitute Jamie Simmons converted Alex Johnson's pass to complete the rout and Hook will face Tadley Calleva A in the quarter-finals this weekend. Bramley are also due to play a quarter-final in the competition on Saturday, when Isle of Wight outfit Seaview are due to visit.

Welly Old Boys' hopes of winning the Basingstoke and District Saturday League Premier Division have been handed a boost with the news that their game against Popley must be replayed.

The committee found that Popley had fielded two players under general suspension when they beat Welly 3-2 in November and ordered that the game be replayed, making Welly the only unbeaten team in the league.
