England boss's praise for Saints

Basingstoke Gazette: Roy Hodgson Roy Hodgson

ENGLAND boss Roy Hodgson has hinted that a number of Saints young stars could still force their way into his World Cup plans.

The England manager – who has handed international debuts to Saints trio Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez so far this season – has spoken in glowing terms of Saints’ use of homegrown players this campaign and identified some of the club’s young guns as potential England stars.

“More teams are injecting young English players into their teams and trusting them,” the England boss said.

Southampton are regularly using people like [Luke] Shaw, [James] Ward-Prowse, [Calum] Chambers, Jack Cork and [Jay] Rodriguez.

“So more and more teams are turning to their academies and the young players they are bringing through, which is of course a positive thing.”

The Three Lions kick off their 2014 fixtures on Wednesday, March 5, when Denmark arrive at Wembley Stadium and, while Hodgson can only take 23 players with him to the World Cup in June, he will initially submit a 30-man squad to FIFA before whittling down to the final group.

“We are likely to choose more than 23 players because we want to start focusing people’s minds on the World Cup and the major task we have ahead,” he added.

At last, an England manager that recognises Southampton players are good enough to represent England, but it also helps that we are in the top half of the table me thinks, you know what the FA are like. They know who they want to go to the world cup, but will Roy get to choose his own squad, time will tell.
what are the latest odds for Saints to have the most amount of players in the england squad?

One day we'll be talking about how a handful of players from other clubs have been called up to play international football for 'Southampton'. Seriously, just have our boys change shirts and then fill the Boruc, Lovren and Schneiderlin holes with a couple of guys from elsewhere.

All we ask is that players are considered....WC may be too early, but Euros are round the corner.

Not really surprising that Roy's turning to our academy. Who else is bringing players through at the rate we are and, most importantly, who else has a manager confident enough to let his young players get game time? We're reaping the rewards for both the academy and MP's vision and belief.

Is it not true that we are the envy of the eorld when it comes to academies. I say this because it seems every manager wants our players.

We are southampton. We are off to Brasil.
