LODDON Vale Bowls Club’s men can now only sit and wait to see if they are to be crowned Wessex League Eastern Division champions, as they are not in action in the final round of games, which take place on Sunday.

The Vale men head the table by 16 points from Westlecot and West Berks, who are both in action on the final day.

Last Thursday, Vale Ladies beat North Hants WBA 107-78, as Sheila Stone (28-11), Sheila Girle (16-15) and June Harvie (28-13) skipped their rinks to victory.

Stella Hayden drew 16-16 and the only losing rink was Tina Rogers (23-19).

Last Sunday, the club lost 119-114 to Greyfriars from Coventry in a friendly.

Vale had just one winning rink, skipped by Jim Rainbow (33-11). The losing rinks were John Dallaway (22-15), Steve Foyle (24-18), Graham Jordan (20-17), Alan Smith (21-20) and Mick Jones (21-11).

The following day in another friendly, Vale won 131-105 against the Bromley club from Orpington.

The winning rinks were skipped by Jim Rainbow (29-6), John Holmes (22-8), Brian Ambler (17-11), Ernie Sparrowhawk (16-14) and Terry Jones (13-12).

The losing rinks were Tony Miller (16-9), Ian Laming (24-17) and Don Lee (13-8).

In the Trisham last Saturday, the men went to pieces, losing to Bannister Park 90-66. They won on the rinks of Dusty Miller (20-18) and Ray Harris (24-17), but John Holmes (24-14) and Robby Voller (31-8) both lost.

In the Bramley Bowl, Chawton Park still hold top spot despite going down to Victory by 73-71.
