  • Guildford Flames 6 Basingstoke Bison 3 (agg Flames 9 Bison 11)
  • Milos Melicherik gave the Flames the lead, only for Cameron Wynn to level things by the end of the first period.
  • Branislav Kvetan puts Guildford in front again, and this time it is Tomas Karpov who nets the equaliser to make it 2-2 at the second buzzer.
  • In a grandstand finish in the final session, the Flames scored four unanswered goals from Marcus Kristoffersson, Kvetan twice to complete his hat-trick and Nicky Watt.
  • So with 40 seconds left in the game the cup holders trailed by just one goal overall in the tie.
  • They pulled their goalie again, but Kurt Reynolds hits the empty net to make sure the Bison are on their way to the EPL Cup final.

REACTION: Basingstoke Bison player/coach Doug Sheppard said: "It was great to make it to a final for all our brilliant fans, but we did not make it easy for ourselves. Guildford certainly gave it a go tonight.  We now have another big weekend in the league coming up and will be looking for four points."

So the Bison book their place in the EPL Cup final and will face either Manchester Phoenix or Milton Keynes Lightning.

The second leg of their semi-final is on February 13 in Manchester. The score after the first leg was 5-5.

The Herd are next in action on Saturday when they are at home to the Swindon Wildcats remember to log on for live updates.

FINAL SCORE - Flames 6 Bison 3 (agg Flames 9 Bison 11)

Have to say it was a bit close for comfort at the end. Never been happier to see an empty net goal.

GOAL - Flames 6 Bison 3 - Kurt Reynolds (59:28)

After the centre face-off the Flames goalie is pulled again and this time the Bison find the empty net with a shot from his own zone from Reynolds.

GOAL - Flames 6 Bison 2 - Nicky Watt (59:20)

Flames score on another powerplay just 10 seconds after Aaron Connolly takes a seat.

Guildford pull their netminder and Watt scores from close range. Now it is edge of the seats stuff with the overall lead down to one and Flames are sure to pull the goalie again.

GOAL - Flames 5 Bison 2 - Branislav Kvetan (58:23)

Even without Kristoffersson the Flames score on the powerplay as Kvetan produces a clinical finish and now overall the lead is two goals.

Into the final two minutes and Baird takes a slashing minor, while Flames best forward Kristoffersson earns a 10 minute misconduct penalty. So the Flames have a powerplay.

Guildford player/coach Paul Dixon calls a timeout at 57:37 as the Flames get set for one last roll of the dice.

Kristoffersson is denied by Skinns as Guildford keep searching for another goal.

No goal on the powerplay, but the Herd just need to see this game out now and they looked in good shape to do it.

Now the Bison have a chance to run some more time off the clock with their own powerplay as Kvetan departs for slashing with eight minutes left.

More nervous moments as the Flames are given a powerplay as Baird goes to the sin nin. However, the Herd D stand tall and the Flames fail to score, but they are in charge now.

GOAL - Flames 4 Bison 2 - Branislav Kvetan (45:58)

Guildford narrow the kead overall in the tie to three goals with their second of the period as Kristoffersson does the spade work for Kvetan to score with a wrist shot.

GOAL- Flames 3 Bison 2 - Marcus Kristoffersson (43:02)

Good early pressure from the visitors pays off a Kristoffersson is able to beat Skinns after good work from Melicherik.

The final period is underway only 20 minutes to another cup final

END OF THE SECOND PERIOD - Flames 2 Bison 2 (agg Flames 5 Bison 10)

The Herd are just 20 minutes away from another cup final. Guildford will have to have a stunning final period if the holders for the past two years are to keep hold of their trophy. A solid road game from the Bison just need to finish the job off now.

The very dangerous Kristoffersson goes close for the Flames.

Another good Bison powerplay, but Hadfield makes the saves, the best being to deny Karpov a second goal of the evening.

GOAL - Flames 2 Bison 2 - Tomas Karpov (29:01)

Bison hit straight back again to tie the game on the night, as leading scorer Karpov turns on his magic to score from close range.

GOAL - Flames 2 Bison 1 - Branislav Kvetan (27:12)

The three Guildford imports combine as Melicherik and Kristoffersson set-up the defenceman Kvetan to score from the slot.

The puck is dropped for the start of the second period

END OF THE FIRST PERIOD - Flames 1 Bison 1 (agg Flames 4 Bison 9)

Even contest so far with the Bison hitting back as soon as the Flames scored. So this keeps the Bison five goal advantage overall in this EPL Cup  tie.

Another Flames penalty sees Long go close, but Guildford keep the Herd out

GOAL - Flames 1 Bison 1 - Cameron Wynn (17:25)

Young Brit Wynn grabs his third goal of the season after a good move involving Wales and Karpov.

GOAL - Flames 1 Bison 0  Milos Melicherik (16:17)

Good work from Ben Campbell sets up the Flames import to score the opening goal with a nice wrist shot.

Skinns makes some good saves as a powerplay on Long is killed off

Stick with me having problems with the signal, but the Flames kill a powerplay as Tomas Karpov goes close for the Bison.

Bison kill the first powerplay of the night.

Here we go game underway

Team news Bison minus Andy Melachrino.

Flames without import Jozef Kohut and Brits Dean Holland, Stuart Potts and Tom Duggan.

The Herd won the first-leg last week 8-3, so start as favourites to make EPL Cup final for the second time in their history. The Bison have won on their last three visits to Guildford. The Flames current home form is not too good having lost their last three.

Dean Skinns gets the start in net for Bison and James Hadfield is between the pipes for Guildford.

Welcome to tonight's second leg of the EPL Cup semi-final between the Guildford Flames and the Basingstoke Bison.
