Honours were even in the Riversmeet clash between Loddon Vale and Palmerston, which ended 74-74 last Saturday.

Karen Winter (23-15) was skip on Loddon Vale’s only winning rink, but the other three rinks lost. Tina Rogers (19-17), Pauline Oxlade (20-16) and Sheila Stone (20-18) were the defeated skippers.

The ladies’ excellent run in the Yetton Plate came to an end the following day as they lost to the Arun club from Bognor by 78- 58.

Only Winter was able to prevent a whitewash as her rink recorded an 18-18 draw.

The other three rinks all lost: Rogers (18-15), Oxlade (24-11) and Kay Kerley 18-14.

Vale enjoyed a 180-133 friendly win over Thameside Wanderers last Saturday.

Vale’s winning rinks were skipped by Frank Fuller (22-18), Don Lee (17-16), John Holmes (22-14), Fred Goddard (19-16), Mick Jones (18-13), Terry Jones (29-7) and top of the pile Ian Laming (36-12). The only losing rink was Ernie Sparrowhawk (27-16).

The following day, the club recorded yet another win in the Wessex League, this time beating Rivermead 77-72. Not a great margin but it did provide the club with 13 valuable points.

On Sunday, the league leaders complete their campaign against bottom side Chipping Norton.

Vale head the table with 83 points. Carterton and West Berks have 66 and Westlecot 65.

Loddon Vale was saddened to learn of the passing of Carole Knowles.

Carole carried her long-term illness with dignity and her family are in the thoughts of everyone at the club during this difficult time.
