BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club’s ladies’ third team led the way as three sides recorded 2-0 victories at Down Grange last Saturday.

The thirds started the game under pressure, but weathered the storm and held Winchester 0-0 at half-time.

After the break, the deadlock was broken as Jenny Rust’s swift pass in the D bamboozled the opposing goalkeeper and Ellie Pearson calmly slotted home.

The home side surged into the ascendancy and doubled their lead 10 minutes from time. Rust ran from deep and smashed the ball into the net.

The ladies’ first team took the second victory of the day, returning to form with a 2-0 win over Wanderers.

Numerous chances went begging before Catriona Bausor was fed by Jo Pett to slam home a second to kill the game.

The men’s first team followed suit in the afternoon, facing Camberley and Farnborough.

The home side made the best possible start with an early goal from Danny Bowden, and the same player made it 2-0.

The men’s third and fifth teams rounded off the day with victories to make it five wins out of five at Down Grange.

The thirds climbed to seventh in the league with a 3-0 victory over Gosport, while the fifths beat Yateley 2-0 in their derby.

Away from Basingstoke, the ladies’ fourths ran out 2-1 victors over Aldershot, coming from behind thanks to goals from Lynda Day and Trisha Flynn.

The second string lost 1-0 against Gosport, with the winner coming early in the second half.

The men’s seconds faced Portsmouth and Southsea.

Despite having the lion’s share of the possession and a man-of-the-match perform-ance from goalkeeper James Warman, they slipped to a 3-1 defeat.

The Basingstoke goal came when Neil Skidmore unselfishly teed-up Phil Stewart to slot home at the back post.

The men’s fourths were held to a 2-2 draw by home side Lavant.

The ladies’ fifth team lost 2-1 to Fleet and Ewshot.
