TOP met bottom in Basingstoke and District Sunday League Division One last weekend – but the match was closer than expected.
The game between leaders Tron and basement side Kaiser Wessex was goal-less until five minutes from time, when substitute Adam Cox, making his first appearance following a broken leg, scored with his first touch to give the strugglers a shock win.
Skewers went to the top of Division Two thanks to a 3-1 win over visiting Hampshire Irons. Rich Gary opened the scoring with a long-range shot, Stephen Bean added a second and the third was an own-goal.
Basingstoke Sports and Social travelled to AFC Wolversdene in the North Hants Senior Cup, with the tie a closely-contested affair until twenty minutes from the end.
The hosts scored first but Andy Butler equalised with a shot from thirty yards to make it 1-1 at the break. Wolversdene took the lead again but Ellis Hauman pegged them back and Alex Izzo scored a penalty to put Sports and Social 3-2 up.
However, Sports and Social tired in the closing stages, allowing Wolversdene to score three times and complete a 5-3 victory.
All of the other games in the Sunday league programme were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
