BASINGSTOKE footballer Rowan Vine has signed for Scottish Championship strugglers Greenock Morton.

The 31-year-old signed in the closing hours of the January transfer window, having been told that he was surplus to requirements at Premier League Hibernian under new manager Terry Butcher.

Morton are in terrible trouble at the foot of the table, having picked up just 15 points from their first 23 games. They are nine points adrift of the side above them but have improved of late, avoiding defeat in their last four games following a run of eight defeats in a row.

Vine, who has previously represented Portsmouth, Luton Town, Birmingham City, Queens Park Rangers and St Johnstone, has signed to play for Morton until the end of the season.

However, he was unable to make his debut on Saturday, being left out as his new side held leaders Falkirk 1-1. Morton’s next game is on February 15, when they host Cowdenbeath.
