BASINGSTOKE RFC will look to upset the form book as they entertain title-chasing Old Elthamians on Saturday.

The visitors, based in Chislehurst, are the only side with a realistic chance of stopping Dorking taking the National League Three London title and have only been beaten once this season.

When the sides met earlier in the season in Kent, ’Stoke only trailed 15-7 at half-time, but eventually lost 49-14.

Basingstoke RFC’s director of rugby James Croker is under no illusions about the job in hand and said: “They are very good with primary possession. They have the best line out in the league and a very good scrum.

“Everyone is expecting them to win, but we will be looking to see if we can cause an upset and if not, we want to pick up a couple of bonus points.”

Croker added: “I think with our brand of rugby we are always going to score tries, especially as we have Gavin Dampies back this week and Freddie Gleadowe has scored 42 tries in the last three seasons.”

The only selection headache this week for Croker is at scrum-half, as Guy Wilkinson is ruled out for six weeks with a broken nose.

Croker said: “Guy is a talented lad and was growing with every game he played, so it is a shame he is ruled out. We will look at the options we have and make a decision later in the week.”

One of the options is to hand returning fly-half Adam Davies the number nine shirt.

Saturday’s game has a 2pm start at Down Grange as the visitors have a long standing function at their own club and asked for the kick-off to be moved forward.
