FOLLOWING her impressive win in the World Ladies Indoor Bowling Championship, 18-year-old Katherine Rendall from Ipswich completed a magic week by taking the Ladies under-25 National Championship held at Loddon Vale last weekend.

She may be short in stature but when it comes to finding the right line and weight and drawing almost impossible shots, she has become a giant in the ladies’ game.

Last Friday, Loddon Vale hosted the Kent Indoor Bowling Association on their annual tour and came unstuck, losing 168-131.

This was by no means a poor result as there were a number of current and past county players in the Kent team.

Vale won on just two rinks thanks to Alan Smith (35-10) and Tony Miller (16-15). Terry Jones just lost on the last end, going down 19-18, and the other losing rinks were Don Lee (27-20), John Holmes (19-11), Ian Laming (25-11), Fred Goddard (27-11) and Steve Foyle (26-9).

The club had no match last weekend in the Trisham, so Palmerston opened up a 16-point gap at the top by defeating bottom side Rushmoor, but Vale do have a game in hand.

In the Bramley, Chawton Park look likely to win for a third year running as they have an 11.5 point lead over Victory.

On Sunday, in the Wessex League, the club meet Rivermead, looking to stay on track for the title.
