Briggs targeted as England lose again

DANNY Briggs conceded the worst figures of his Twenty20 career as England were beaten by Australia in Hobart.
The Hampshire slow left-armer was not helped by a short boundary but went for 53 runs from four wicketless overs as England lost the series opener by 13 runs.
Briggs had never conceded more than 38 in a t20 match before finishing with 1-51 when Aaron Finch blasted his record-breaking 156 against England at The Ageas Bowl five months ago.
Finch (52) shared a 106-run opening partnership from only 64 balls with Cameron White (75) this time.
Batting at No 3, Hampshire target Glenn Maxwell contributed a 13-ball 20 before bowling the first over of England’s reply.
He bowled Eoin Morgan (4) with his off-spin before finishing with 1-30 from three overs.
Ravi Bopara managed to restore a little pride by blasting an unbeaten 65 from just 27 balls, including England’s quickest t20 fifty (23 balls).
Bopara hit seven sixes and Briggs watched from the non-striker’s end as he hit three against Josh Hazlewood in the final over, which cost 24.
But it was a case of too little, too late as England suffered their tenth defeat in 11 matches against Australia this winter.
