Fonte has 'moved on' from Osvaldo controversy

José Fonte says he has moved on from the training ground incident that saw Dani Osvaldo suspended for two weeks after allegedly headbutting him.

The defender scored the opening goal in last night’s pulsating 2-2 draw with Arsenal at St Mary’s and then spoke publicly for the first time since news of Osvaldo’s ban broke.

“What can I say, I’m fine,” said the centre-half, who sustained a black eye in the incident.

“It has been eventful, obviously, and what happened wasn’t nice at the training ground, but I am man enough and I have moved on and I hope everyone can move on and focus on what is important, which is Southampton, the club and winning games of football.

“There is no problem with me, I am fine, so I just want to keep playing.”

Osvaldo is still to break his silence on the matter, although he did, rather oddly, retweet all of the messages from Saints’ official account last night which contained photos of Fonte.

It remains to be seen whether the Italian international will remain at Saints beyond the end of the transfer window, although his future is certainly in serious doubt right now.

Fonte says the incident has not upset the mood within the squad, though.

“This group is very strong mentally and the togetherness is there,” he said. “We know each other really well and know what we are all capable of.

“We are professional and know that we have to do a job on the pitch because this is our careers and our lives and we need to deliver.

“Credit to all the players who showed great character and great belief.”

On the draw with Arsenal, he said: “We are disappointed we didn’t get the three points because I felt we deserved it.

“It was lively and it was hard because Arsenal are such a good team.

“They came at us in the second half and possibly we didn’t defend very well but we have to give credit to them because they are one of the best teams in the world and they have great players.

“They forced their way in and scored two goals, but it was a great reaction from us after that.”

We so need SRL to stay with us to teach Big Sam the tricks of the trade, a ready made replacement that needs nurturing, and as cheap as chips!

Jose Fonte is right to move on, Dani has let everyone down and betrayed MoPo who knows him from Spain when he was at Espanyol, his unnecessary fit of violence should never happen in Football, we will possibly know in the next 2 days does he stay or go?
Katharina was at the game list night perhaps she stayed away in the past because she didn't like Nicola Cortese and didn't want to sit near him, everyone knows it happens in life when you can like some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time, I wish I was more mobile I would loved to of been there last night, the Adam and Dave's description was perfect and as usual comment by Wenger, my Team were in 2nd gear and Saints in 4th not my Team were being outplayed typical of him that a Leopard never changes it's spots, well done Saints for proving you are as good as them COYR

He did say in the interview on Sky (when pushed) that Saints first half performance was the best he had come against this season

This sounds like the first effort to give DO a chance to apologize with grace and put this behind him. This squad is all about team spirit, all for one and all that musketeer stuff. Fonte has done his bit, now the other fella has to step up.
Do it or be damned.

I don't pretend to understand what all the re-tweets were about ?

He only reweeted the picture with Jose in it whic meant all the pictures were of Jose.

A bit odd, but he is a bit odd. Maybe e has already aplogised and this is his wayof showing he has no ssues with Fonte.

Who knows!

Outside of the Box says...

Everyone at the Club has moved on, Dani is not being sold or loaned out, everyone know that Jose Fonte makes tackles in training like he does in a Premier League game, Dani took exception to one of his challenge/hard tackles, the flashpoint was over in seconds and the only reason we know what happened is because there were photographers present so the Club released the details before the journalists/photogra
phers did.

Going off the subject a little friends who work at the Club have said that Katharina Liebherr is like a breath of fresh air around the Club, she is a very unassuming lady and you wouldn't believe she is a billionaire, the Krauger chap is working his way round ever member of staff and often joins them for lunch, asking if the staff have burning issues they need to sort out and telling them he's there to help if they have any problems, his door is always open. It seems the whole staff team are happy with developments and the general feel around SMS is very positive after the departure of NC.

Long may it and Dani last at Saints
