THE Basingstoke RFC Dragons returned to winning ways as they beat visiting Havant II 31-15 on Saturday afternoon.

The home side led the game from start to finish and were 15 points up by half time.

In total, the Dragons scored four tries, with Carl Haywood going over twice, and there were single scores for Sam Turner and Joe Biggot. Hooker James Savine kicked the rest of their points.

They travel to Tottonians this weekend.

The Griffins’ scheduled game against Eastleigh II was postponed, and they are on the road this Saturday with a trip to Trojans III.

The Cavaliers had no game but are back in action this weekend, hosting Petersfield II.

Basingstoke’s fifth team slipped to a 16-3 defeat at Winchester IV.

A solitary penalty from Dean Crossley supplied the visitors’ only points in a physical game.

Despite the defeat, there was a tremendous performance from the forwards, working hard at the scrum, breakdown and set piece. Unfortunately, an unfamiliar backline struggled to work the ball and take the opportunities created by the forwards.

Basingstoke’s man-of-the-match was Alec Arrol, in his first game at hooker for over 10 years.

The fifths will look to bounce back to winning ways with a trip to Lymington Mariners II on the cards for them this Saturday.
