Katharina Liebherr has begun to identify the people she wants to help run Saints.

The Saints owner and new non-executive chairman has wasted no time in finding the right people to fulfil her vision for the club.

After the appointment of a chief executive, which is expected this week, will come a series of non-executive appointments to the Saints board with former professional ice hockey player and coach Ralph Krueger set to be amongst them.

Also high on the list is Josef Lenhart, an Austria-based former professional footballer who now runs a sports management business.

Assuming both Krueger and Lenhart can be persuaded to join Saints in non-executive roles, there is likely to be at least one further name to be added to the list.

However, the Daily Echo understands that none of the appointments are likely to be made in coming days.

Krueger’s expertise is so sought after he is committed to the prestigious Canadian ice hockey side for the upcoming Winter Olympics. The non-executive appointments are likely to take place en masse after that.

Of the new appointments, Krueger is without doubt the highest profile.

He is wanted for his vast background in management and leadership rather than any attempt to push his ice hockey principles into football.

The Daily Echo understands he does not wish to get involved with the day to day football management and coaching side of the club.

Krueger, a 54-year-old Canadian, played 350 matches at the top level of German ice hockey as well as 45 times for the West German national side.

After retiring from playing, he went into coaching and forged a highly successful career.

Having started in the lower leagues of Germany, he took charge of VEU Feldkirch and led them to five successive Austrian championships and eventually won the European Ice Hockey League.

Krueger spent more than a decade as the coach of the Swiss men’s national ice hockey team and recently had a year in the high profile world of the NHL, as coach of the Edmonton Oilers.

The Canadian Olympic team has hired him as a special adviser to its coaching staff for the upcoming Winter Olympics.

He is considered a deep thinker and visionary in ice hockey circles.

His experience in management and leadership has even seen him sit on the council of the World Economic Forum.

Lenhart, whose name was first linked to Saints due to documents filed on the Companies House website that contradicted whether he had or had not already been appointed as a Saints director, is a 53-year-old Austrian former professional footballer.

He enjoyed a long playing career, including a spell with Wacker Innsbruck in the German Bundesliga, before founding his own sports management company in 1988 in the shape of Sporteo International Sports Management AG.

The company offer expertise in sports sponsorship, sports media and mentoring athletes.

He is also on the council of the leading European football charity, FIM (Football Is More).

Krueger is known for his motivational speaking career, in which he explores the elements necessary to build a high-performance team. He places team spirit above individual success and he details the philosophy in his autobiographical self-help book, Teamlife: From Failure to Success

Just what I was thinking as it was Clive Woodward who was previously the England Coach. That didn't last long.

These comparisons are pretty pointless. For a start, woodward was on the coaching staff not on the board.

It was the quality of the post, not just the content this time. We have enough of our own doubters, doesn't need an iliterate outsider making things worse, especially questioning our 'new' leader, that's out of order.

The South Coast club made the amazing announcement within hours of SportsDirect News breaking the story that, Josef Lenhart, a 53-year-old former Austrian league footballer and agent to a small number of second and third tier European players, had been asked to join the Saints board by executive chairman, Katharina Liebherr.
Amazing how not one professional journo has picked up on this story innit Blue.

Fool.
I didn't realise there were so many straws out there to clutch at. What a tw-t.
be fair to old blue, he is our resident straw clutching expert. how many times did he tell us all that NC was on his way out and this would mean our club would be sold at the earliest opportunity to some other foreign investor who would asset strip so much that we would end up like his lot?

also he is a poopey fan and still hopes they will stay up this season.

i suppose its the blue fews problem the fans own the club because no one would buy it so they had to or go bust .we have owners with 130m assets stadium training ground some thing they could of done while premier league like we did instead of given 75k a week wages to the squad when they only got 17.000 including away fans .they just cannot compete and if they ever got near the top league the fans would have to find a buyer because the fans could not afford to run the club .rangers in scotland will have to do this in a couple of seasons fact not fiction

yes owners are they appoint good directors .the point is should you get near the top league the fans will have to sell to a owner to run the club at top level .the thing is we have owners but have assets you had none just dwindling debt otherwise trevor birch would of got a new owner before the fans ever got near there .we paid jayrod fee there are not other payments to burnley and not for cork or fox either .so yes owners good as long as you have good directors .not ones like peter storrie .take a look at the wage ours is half what yours was average 35k not 75k and we get 32.000 thats why your sat in league 2 still paying there wages till 2016 the directors set the deals the owners just back the club within its budget .thats what happens here but it never did at portsmouth as now been clarified

Kruger could be a good addition, he is involved with the team that many say only has to turn up to win gold. His actual background and behind the scenes experience could be a good link and support for MP. His history maybe ice hockey, but his experience behind the scenes and if true his motivational qualities could be an asset to the club. Time will tell.
The thing is at least KL is looking to bring people who have experience in depth at team sport onto the board, have not only played but been involved the behind the scenes and in the commercial side as well. It would seem that she is forming a board of people who know the sport world in some depth.
One may of been forgiven for thinking that she may of brought in a board of her minions who had no knowledge of sport or interest. Yet i do not think she could have done much more to show she is trying to see the Saints have the best chance to progress other than bring back NC.
I would think most Saints fans would feel more confident about the future now than last thursday morning. A nice January transfer would do a lot to settle MP and a fat new contract.

Ok so it seems KL may be bringing in an ex ice hockey pro, who appears to have excellent sports and management back ground, who want to succeed in what ever they do, but look at it positively if all the thing higher up are being sorted by the people up top, and MoPo can get on with footballing things. At least we know then who will be choosing the players as it appears that will be totally up to MoPo!

And Les Reed! I think there will still be separate departments operating below board level, so there will be MoPo in charge of first team affairs but there will also be scouts operating under a separate umbrella who will sit down with Les and MoPo to discuss targets and who we should go after.

I think this is the main area we'll really miss Nicola, actually, as I don't think there was anyone quite as good as him as meeting with a player, selling them the dream and telling the agents to go fcuk themselves. As with so much else, we'll have to see how it pans out.

the story in the mail a few weeks ago about our new training facilities stated that "there is the ‘Black Box’, a room where every game, every team and every player from the seven best leagues in Europe will be analysed by Southampton’s team of 26 technical staff. In time they will have the capacity to monitor leagues all over the world". so I think it wont be completely up to MP. a big staff looking for targets across all leagues in positions set out by MP, less reed and whoever else is in the scouting meetings, is a far better way of getting the right players than the old style of managers being in sole charge of transfer targets. especially if a manager has a bonus scheme in his contract, that pays huge sums for player sales and purchases, goo old `arry.
the system has already picked out dejan, who was watched for weeks, and Big Vic. this is the reason we don't `panic` buy in the windows. I hope they were looking for more CB`s before dejan got injured and the right targets identified. I know people are saying we need another CB like dejan but I think he is a rare find. he`s been rated as one of the best purchases this season and one of the top 50 players in Europe.
I think stret`s right and its here where we will miss NC the most. didn't he convince Big Vic to sign despite what his agent said? wasn't the agent sacked? haven't we had the lowest payments o agents for a couple of years? clubs like manure wanted our players but new that NC wasn't going to sell no matter how hard they tried.

If appointed I doubt he'll have anything to do with first-team affairs.

Totally agree 101.
This appointment may turn out to be a good one, but I'll reserve judgement. This Kruguer fella may be good at what he does but tbh I can't imagine a more motivated squad than what we have already. There is already a real togetherness, no dissent, no prima donnas and everyone seems united in their common purpose of hitting the heights laid envisaged by NC. In fact I can't remember a time when we had a more unified team. If it ain't broke......etc comes to mind.

In fact I can't remember a time when we had a more unified team. If it ain't broke......etc comes to mind. STID st1halo

It's plain for all to see that we are 'a laughing stock', 'the wheels have come off'
'we're in turmoil'........
By way of comparison, do we think that all of JW Henry's advisors at Liverpool have only ever been involved in the sport of football? I would suggest that some may have been involved in global, multi-franchise sports operations that demand more than historical sporting prowess.
I quite like the fact that we are gearing up to have a diverse and experienced board with a mix of commercial intelligence and experience in other sporting businesses.

If it was up to a lot of fans on here our board would only be made up of ex-footballers who played more than 100 games for Saints - could you imagine the 'commercial' decisions those sorts of dullards would make?

wow theres something we haven't seen for a while on the os. an injury statement regarding dejan ad gaston. both have ankle ligament damage and are still being assessed so there is a reluctance to give a timescale for recovery. it then goes on to say "We will keep supporters updated on the pair’s recovery and, as soon as we are in a position to comment on their anticipated recuperation time, we will do so".
well KL`s said the other day that the club determination to create a culture based on open communication. so I guess that's whats happening already. we were kept in the dark over things like injuries before, so its refreshing to hear from the club about this. the main thing though is that gaston and dejan get fit as quick as possible, not just for our prem campaign but both were looking likely to be at the world cup.

Sounds to me that Katherina is looking to assemble a non-executive board with a wide range of experience, expertise and external contacts which can oversee the probity of the company and help the club as and when different issues arise. Providing the trust of the executive management team is secured and nurtured this could work extremely well.

Katherina would appear to want to keep the club and grow its future and in order to do that recognises with due humility that she needs some high quality support to do so. Better that than another one of those know-all ego-driven dictatorial Premiership owners half of whom are not entirely sane.

For me she hasn't put a foot wrong yet and gets my vote - though of course time will tell.

As for the skate dialogue today - it's about as pointless as comparing the management of the Walt Disney Corporation with that of a Mickey Mouse costume shop.

you absolutely right I can't imagine the impact if it was only former Saints running the club. Some of our fans believe that Saint is a family club now when it's not ! It's a business and as a business you need to make profit to run the club ! I think what KL trying to do is to turn Saint into a massive club in Europe by signing a contract with a big sponsor trying to get the club in Europe and at least trying to get a big signing to boost sale of shirts. What she need is to find someone who can deliver that and have good links in Europe and have a mix of marketing and commercial experience. That's how football work now. if the fans wants a family feel football club I suggest they watch conference football when footballer still work part time and play ugly football. That Willams guy is not good for our club look at the state of Blackburn now

You're getting tied up in your own rhetoric.
Saints have clearly made a statement that 'we' are a family club inherited by a family -albeit big business. KL and Co.are making the right noises, which has been one of the few areas where we were falling down of late. I think you'll find that our player search will be spread further and wider too.

What's there not to be happy about, and where would a Southern-based team play if they were relegated from the 'Second' division? (Hypothetical like)

Separate question: will the Megastore be recognising Christmas this year?

im sure she didn't want to inherit the club as it meant the death of her father. does it mater that she might have no interest in football? do manures, liverpools, villas, Fulham, spuds or arsenals owners have any interest in football? if she had wanted to sell the club why is she appointing a board of directors? if you think its to get us into Europe to sell us then that's got to be better, the more the clubs worth the richer someone has to be to buy us.
I really don't get your argument though. your moaning that she didn't want us and has no interest in football, but then saying she wants us to become a big club in order to sell us. do you want us to be sold or do you want her to keep us and invest? not very clear.
also why is it you think you are being realistic? what makes you think that? why is it that your opinion, after all it is only an opinion, is right but others are not and are just dreaming?
you know no more than the rest of us.

I really don't get your argument though. your moaning that she didn't want us and has no interest in football, but then saying she wants us to become a big club in order to sell us. do you want us to be sold or do you want her to keep us and invest? not very clear. also why is it you think you are being realistic? what makes you think that? why is it that your opinion, after all it is only an opinion, is right but others are not and are just dreaming? you know no more than the rest of us. el caballo santos101

Your not the only one who's been a fan for years! We've all seen everything happen at saints. Why you think Williams will be bad for rhetoric club is beyond me, loads of people thought NC would be bad, but that turned out alright. Your being very ageist about him and have written him off before hes even been appointed, a touch unfair don't you think? Who said KL would own the club for 20 years? Not me, I know as much as everyone else.
You never answered the question though, you don't want her because she only inherited the club and has no interest in football but also your moaning because you think shes going to turn us into a European 'big' club and then sell us. You cant have both. You cant moan about her selling and then moan that she's here and has no interest. Which do you want?

I really don't understand what is going on here. It seems that this chap Krueger has a fine record in motivation of sports players, but mainly in other sports such as hockey. OK, fair enough; so why don't we employ him and his company to motivate our players, if that's considered necessary? Why does it have to involve him being appointed to the Board of Directors of the club?

And the other allegation, that an Austrian football agent was appointed to our Board of Directors, and then sacked within 24 hours. What is that all about?

I wish I knew what Katharina Liebherr is thinking here.

We can do better we can afford to choose who we want ! Yes is a Saint Fan but football has changed so much I don't even think he can keep up
Who do you suggest is better then? I don't see many other names in the frame, it looks as if he isn't actually available at the moment anyhow.

you absolutely right I can't imagine the impact if it was only former Saints running the club.

Not sure what you mean about the Megastore, but there is a very strong rumour, it may have been in the Daily Mirror, that Christmas Day is on the 25th December this year, which appears to be a Thursday, no doubt someone will dispute this but there we go. Lots of our current posters don't believe a word that is put to them, there is always a conspiracy out there somewhere.

No he will argue that eveybody else around him was crooked and dishonest so believed he wouldn't be singled out.

Perhaps Blue should spend his considerable research time time helping out a fellow fish.
