DIMI Mascarenhas took a wicket with his first ball after leaving Hampshire, but the Hobart Hurricanes have to win their last Big Bash group game to qualify for the semi-finals.
Having recovered from the fractured jaw he suffered in training last month, Mascarenhas dismissed Melbourne Stars captain Cameron White with his first ball for the Hurricanes, a trademark away swinger edged to first slip.
Mascarenhas, who is also the Hurricanes’ assistant coach, finished with 1-27 from his four overs.
But the Stars chased own their 132-run target with five balls and five wickets to spare, thanks largely to a 36-ball 52 from Luke Wright to maintain their perfet record.
It means the Hurricanes will have to win their last group game against Brisbane Heat on Thursday to reach the semi-finals.
