Rumour Mill: Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw and Jay Rodriguez linked away from St Mary's

Basingstoke Gazette: Shaw - linked away Shaw - linked away

Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino yesterday pledged that no players that he wanted to keep will leave the club in the January transfer window.

Despite that statement a few players you'd imagine the Argentine would want to stay continue to be linked away.

  • (Daily Telegraph) Luke Shaw is seeking talks with the club over their future amid reported interest from Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham. Saints have apparently slapped a £30m price tag on the full-back.

  • (Daily Telegraph) Jay Rodriguez is reportedly in the same boat as Shaw as he also seeks talks with the club. The striker is reportedly due a contract extension when he reaches 45 appearances - he's currently on 42. Liverpool have been heavily linked.

  • (Mirror) Rickie Lambert is subject of renewed interest from West Ham United. The Hammers have been interested in Lambert for sometime and have apparently come back in with a £7m bid.

With the recent events at St Mary's it is unsurprising the rumours of players moving to the south coast have all but dried up. The most recent link was with Brazilian ace Diego from German club Wolfsburg.

So why is it 'unsurprising' that talk of incoming players has dried up when everyone seems to suddenly assume we have plenty of time and resources put aside to negotiate the sale of our star players? This is rubbish in my opinion.

Clearly it is very easy to put two and two together and link players away from the club based on lazy journalism, but this is mostly guess work and it's what you'd expect the press to do.

A day ago the bookies had MP as favourite to leave, which is a good best guess but that's all it was. Yesterday morning he was going, yesterday afternoon he was committed to staying, this morning he will give it to the end of the season, basically, they are jumping on every word that's spoken so, frankly, his policy of not speaking in English is proving a good choice.

Katharina knows the sort of message it would send out to sell and she knows that MP has made a public statement claiming nobody is for sale. I don't think we'll be allowing any of our prized assets to leave on the spur of the moment until she's had the chance to fully explain her vision to all the staff.

The media and fans of other clubs might love to stir up stories that everyone is about to jump ship but, while I'm sure they would want assurances and who can blame them, by the looks of the pictures from training everyone is relaxed though obviously naturally distracted by all the media attention.

This is just a rehash of what was reported last week. Poor journalism as per usual.

It's a rumour page mate.
It's obviously a re hash. They've even given you the sources. Not poor journalism just passing on information
