Saints FA Cup legend Steele: Why I'm confident Katharina will act in best interests of club

Basingstoke Gazette: Jim Steele Jim Steele

SAINTS FA Cup winner Jim Steele is confident new chairman Katharina Liebherr will act in the "best interests" of the club.

“She’s not going to be silly, she’s a very shrewd business woman," he said.

"She will be well advised, she’s the one with the money and the one who owns the club, I’m sure she will act in the best interests of the club.”

Steele, man of the match when Saints won the FA Cup at Wembley in 1976, added: “The players will be thinking ‘what’s happening here’, they’ll be worried and they’ll want Pochettino to stay on.”

“Managers will be looking at this and thinking there’s an opportunity to get some players in here. Shaw, Lallana and Lambert will have their fair share of attention from clubs.”

“It could be disastrous but I hope the stability remains.”

“There has been a lot of investment in the team and they need time to settle in – Osvaldo and Ramirez need time, it’s not that easy to settle in.”

Regarding Saints' former chairman Nicola Cortese, Steele said: “Cortese has been a lot of hassle but he’s been successful at the same time and that is all that matters.”

“What I hope is that the club remain stable and keeps moving forward.

"I love the club to death and I wouldn’t want anything truly bad to happen.”

Here's a thought - maybe katherina said to Nicola that she wanted him to go and buy three world-class players this transfer window, whatever the cost, and NC refused, saying he wanted to bring through the academy players, and she's taken the helm so she can gey a chief executive who wants to spend her money .....

Ok, not the most likely scenario, but who knows? We certainly don't ...

more likely knowing Cortese, is that he wanted sole control and the Liebherrs were encountering the same problems to a degree, that Saints fans were encountering with very little information filtering through to the fans or to themselves, about management decisions. lets face it if it was your club you would want to be kept in the loop?? Not to mention involved in the decision making...it will be interesting to see how the Liebherr style differs from that of Cortese. She will be kept busy over the next two weeks for sure.

three hours to go till we hear either good or bad news. i am on edge a little bit, its the not knowing thats driving me mad, kind of like when adkins went, the why how and utter disbelief of it all. And yes Jim, you are right, she will have advisers everywhere, and yes, she does own the club, its just what does she want to do with it! Markus wanted this club to be a success, it is on its way to be, but with who at the helm. I love this club, and want whats best for it, lets stay positive.

Hmm. I'd rather have a future, if it's all the same with you.

I doubt very much that you actually knew Cortese in spite of your claim to the contrary.

Remember standing on the freezing Elland Road terraces back in 1972,watching THAT game, and Jim was still fighting to win the ball even after 7 goals had gone in and virtually everyone else had given up.
