Kelvin aims for Saints milestone

Basingstoke Gazette: Kelvin Davis Kelvin Davis

Kelvin Davis says it would fill him with “immense pride” if he were to become just the 16th post-war Saint to start 300 games for the club.

The 37-year-old’s place between the sticks in the FA Cup tie with Burnley last weekend officially made him the Saints keeper with the most appearances for the club in the post-war era.

Now he is chasing another significant milestone as he needs just ten more starts to join the exclusive 300 club, which no player has done since Claus Lundkevam managed the feat.

“It would be a massive achievement for me,” said Davis, who hopes to retain his place ahead of the fit again Artur Boruc as Saints host West Brom at St Mary’s this afternoon.

“I got an e-mail the other day from someone who mentioned to me I had made 291 appearances which broke a post-war record as a goalkeeper. “It’s not the sort of record you set out to go and achieve but I am very proud of that.

“I would look at that (300 starts) with immense pride if I were to reach it.”

Why have many different reports with the same quotes? Nothing to do with us clicking a new headline and daily echo getting more money through the adverts on site is it?

I hadn't realised Kelv had overtaken Eric Martin's goalkeeping record. That's some feat in itself.

I may be wrong, but I don't think any pre-war goalkeeper played as many, so (if I'm right) he's now the goalie with the most EVER Saints appearances. Has he been here longer than Peter Wells yet?

Well done AND THANK YOU Kelvin.

Btw, who are the other 15? My best guess for most of them would be ........
Eric Day, Paine, Sydenham, Traynor, Channon, Fisher, Holmes, Le Tiss, Benali, Dodd, Lundkevam ..... struggling now.

Like KELV - but wish the back pages were not all about him.

We have had years of seeing these types of headlines.

We need TOP KEEPERS to get WINS in the Premiership and Kelv is not. Up to that level and slow.

LOVE to see him in the Coaching Role.

Martin's record was 290 the one Kelv just beat. The only keeper with more appearances is Tommy Allen with 323.

Glenn Cockerill, Steve Williams, Tommy Mulgrew, Cliff Huxford, Danny Wallace, Derek Reeves and Matt Oakley.

The fact is SAINTS FANS know the score ....

Time to be magnanimous and try and help KELV achieve his treble Ton.

There will be times where we can slot him in as he is determined to carry on.
He is also good in the Dressing Room and with the lads.

TODAY WE FIGHT TO WIN.
