PUPILS from Dove House School Academy, Maple Ridge Primary School, Chalkridge Primary School and Queen Mary’s College took part in the Basingstoke Special Schools Gala.

For the large majority of swimmers, this was their first competitive race and the organisers were impressed with the enthusiasm and effort shown by all of them, which could clearly be seen in the high standard of swimming.

The top times were achieved by the following swimmers: Finlay Power (Dove House), Joshua Knowles (Maple Ridge), James Richardson (Chalkridge) and Jordan Mancey (QMC).

Chalkridge’s head teacher, Donna Shave, said: “We were all very proud that James (Richardson) was able to take part in the swimming competition. It was a huge achievement and we were not surprised that he did so well.”

Maple Ridge teacher Pam Brown added: “The swimming gala was very well organised. The children came away with a real sense of achievement, and were very proud to show their medals to the rest of the school during assembly.”

QMC’s top swimmer Mancey said: “It was a great gala. It was good to see so many swimmers enjoying themselves.”

The organisers would like to thank Basingstoke Bluefins, Sport Hampshire and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council for sponsoring the event.
