Jay Rodriguez believes Southampton-born Danny Ings can follow him into the Premier League – and the England side.
“I don’t see why not, he’s a great player with a great future,” said Rodriguez.
Released by Saints as a schoolboy, 21 year-old Ings moved to Burnley after coming through the ranks at AFC Bournemouth.
Now the former Brockenhurst College student is firing Burnley’s promotion charge, with 19 goals in 27 league and cup games so far this season.
Rodriguez is hoping to play against his former Clarets teammate next season.
“Unfortunately, Danny picked up a bad injury when I was there but when he came back he was a great player and it’s no surprise he’s scoring goals for fun,” he said. “He’s a great talent and a good lad as well so I am sure there’ll be a lot of interest in him during the January transfer window.
“But I’m sure Burnley will be able to keep hold of him and do well this year.”
