Basingstoke Town's new signing Louie Soares scored on his debut in the Dragons 4-0 win over visiting Farnborough on Boxing Day.

The midfielder joined Town on the morning of the match from Hayes and Yeading, having previously played for Aldershot and Barnet.

The 28-year-old came off the subs bench to slot home the final goal of the contest.

The home side dominated the game and took the lead after six minutes, as Rob Rice's cross was flapped at by Samuel Freeman on his debut and fell to Kezie Ibe to tap in.

The advantage was doubled on 14 minutes as a ball from Neil Barrett found Manny Williams to strike home.

Town made it 3-0 thanks to Shaun McAuley, as he was given far too much space and fired in from 30 yards out. His strike took a deflection off Josh Huggins leaving Freeman no chance.

Farnborough had their best spell of the game as the first half came to a close, but David Tarpey and Alan Inns failed to hit the target.

After the break, there were few chances until the last 15 minutes.

Town's Barrett then headed on to the bar and Freeman produced a great one handed save to deny Ibe.

The same home striker, then did all the spadework to set-up Soares to score in the final minute.

Basingstoke will look for another three points when they travel to Gosport Borough on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
