NEW Basingstoke Bison signing Ciaran Long opened his account with two goals as the Herd won 5-0 at the Hive against the Bracknell Bees on Sunday night.

This completed a double header weekend of wins for Basingstoke over their local rivals, and Dean Skinns recorded a shut-out in both games. He turned away 33 shots in Bracknell.

It was Long who opened the scoring at 11:17, with the only goal of the first period.

Three minutes later, the sin bin filled up as Bracknell’s James Galazzi, Harvey Stead and Scott Spearing along with the Bison’s Joe Miller, Aaron Connolly and Joe Greener all took a seat in the penalty box for roughing.

However, there was no further scoring in the session, so the Bison took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room.

This advantage was doubled by Joe Miller at 27:23 and two minutes later Andy Melachrino made it 3-0.

A super top corner strike from Kurt Reynolds, ended the game as a contest, as netted the Herd’s fourth of the night.

The final period saw just one more goal as Long scored his second of the night on the powerplay.

The win moved the Bison up to second in the English Premier League table and they are next in action away at Swindon on Saturday night, before a home game with Sheffield on Sunday.
