Updated 3:46pm Sunday 22nd December 2013 in Sport
This live event has finished
- Saints' winless run extends to six league matches
- Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert with the Saints goals
- Emmanuel Adebayor (2) and a Jos Hooiveld own goal for Spurs
It's now six league games without a win for Saints, who miss the chance to climb to eighth place in the table. Mauricio Pochettino's men remain ninth in the standings tonight after a disappointing afternoon. We will have a full report and reaction for you on the website shortly. We will be back next on Boxing Day, when Saints visit Cardiff. In the meantime, we wish you all a Merry Christmas...
SAINTS 2 TOTTENHAM 3
SPURS SUB (84 mins) Roberto Soldado off, Jermain Defoe on.
CHANCE (81 mins): Adam Lallana slips in Sam Gallagher, but his shot across goal from a tight angle is saved by Hugo Lloris.
SAINTS SUB (78 mins): Danny Fox replaced by Sam Gallagher.
CHANCE (77 mins): Adam Lallana latches onto Gaston Ramirez's through ball, but Hugo Lloris gets out to smother his effort just as he stretches to poke the ball goalwards.
SAINTS SUB (69 mins): Gaston Ramirez on for Steven Davis. Earlier, James Ward-Prowse replaced Jack Cork. Ward-Prowse has also picked up a yellow card since his introduction.
CHANCE (69 mins): Nacer Chadli whips in a delightful ball from the right. Roberto Soldado slides in at the back post to meet it six yards out, but his outstretched foot somehow manages to send the ball bouncing into the ground and over the bar.
CHANCE (66 mins): Roberto Soldado turns Dejan Lovren and races through on goal, but drags his shot wide of the far post. A huge chance goes begging for Spurs.
SAINTS 2 TOTTENHAM 3 (Emmanuel Adebayor 64)
Poor defending from Saints, as they fail to clear a fairly innocuous-looking throw-in into their area. The ball drops to Adebayor and he fires low past Paulo Gazzaniga.
SAINTS 2 TOTTENHAM 2 (Rickie Lambert 60)
Saints are back on level terms quickly, and it is via a lovely team goal. Some nice passing works the ball to Jack Cork on the right. His angled through pass picks out the run of Adam Lallana. Hugo Lloris steams out towards the corner of his area to meet him, but the Saints skipper shows incredible vision to cut the ball into the path of Lambert, who rolls the ball into an empty net from 18 yards out.
SAINTS 1 TOTTENHAM 2 (Jos Hooiveld og 54)
Christian Eriksen plays a nice ball for Danny Rose, who drills in a cross from the byline that Hooiveld deflects past Gazzaniga at the near post.
SPURS SUB (50 mins): Mousa Dembele picks up an injury and is substituted for Nabil Bentaleb.

CHANCE (35 mins): Kyle Walker gets to the byline and cuts back a ball that finds its way to Gylfi Sigurdsson 12 yards out. His right-foot shot is well deflected behind by Steven Davis, though, before Saints clear the resulting corner.
SAINTS 1 TOTTENHAM 1 (Emmanuel Adebayor 25)
Spurs break on Saints, with Adebayor playing a ball out to the left wing for Roberto Soldado. The forward whips a glorious cross into the back post, picking out the run of his strike partner in between Jos Hooiveld and Danny Fox. Adebayor acrobatically lunges at it with his right foot and sends the ball past Paulo Gazzaniga to equalise.
CHANCE (24 mins): Spurs left-back Danny Rose slips, allowing Rickie Lambert to steal the ball off him. He squares it inside to Adam Lallana, who produces a brilliant first-time touch to clip the ball into the path of Jay Rodriguez just inside the area. The forward tries curling the ball into the far top corner, but just gets under it too much and it goes over.
SAINTS 1 TOTTENHAM 0 (Adam Lallana 13)
Saints break away down the left-hand side with Danny Fox. He plays a ball inside to Adam Lallana, who turns Vlad Chiriches, before drilling a low right-foot shot in off the post from 20 yards.
CHANCE (3 mins): Rickie Lambert is bundled over by Michael Dawson 35 yards from goal. Lambert curls the resulting free-kick towards the bottom corner, but it is easily held by Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal.
The match is underway.

Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen starts for Spurs today. Five years ago, Mark Wotte recommended that Saints sign the player. Click here for the story.
Could of played today they just didn't want to risk it, as we have a busy Christmas schedule coming up! I will be fit for the game Thursday!— @LukeShaw3 22 December 2013

And here is his Spurs caretaker counterpart, Tim Sherwood, speaking to the media on Friday...
Mauricio Pochettino spoke to the media on Friday morning, ahead of this afternoon's match. Here is a snippet of what he had to say...
Tottenham squad news: Tottenham will be without Andros Townsend for their trip to Southampton. The England winger was forced off during Spurs' 2-1 Capital One Cup defeat to West Ham with a hamstring injury and will not be fit to play any part at St Mary's. Caretaker manager Tim Sherwood will have captain Michael Dawson available after a ban, but Paulinho is still suspended and defensive duo Younes Kaboul (thigh) and Jan Vertonghen (ankle) are also missing.
Saints squad news: Defender Nathaniel Clyne will face a fitness test on his hamstring complaint ahead of Saints' home clash with Tottenham. Manager Mauricio Pochettino will definitely have to do without Artur Boruc, Kelvin Davis, Guly do Prado and Victor Wanyama who are all still injured.
