MATCHDAY LIVE - Bishop's Stortford v Basingstoke Town

This live event has finished

  • FULL-TIME - Bishop's Stortford 5 Basingstoke Town 3
  • Town suffer fourth straight Conference South defeat.
  • Liam Enver-Marum's brace has the hosts two up at half-time.
  • Shaun McAuley and Andrew Jenkinson score either side of Cliff Akurang early in the second half.
  • Sean Francis, an own-goal and Akurang make for an interesting last 10 minutes.

Right, I'm off home. Hopefully the roads will be less busy than they were on the way up here.

I'm off for the next few games but there should be live updates from at least the two Farnborough games.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Another defeat for Jason Bristow's men. They fought hard in the second half but the game was lost before the break, when they were wasteful in front of goal and made to pay for two defensive lapses.

Bishop's Stortford 5 Basingstoke Town 3

Williams drives in a shot that Wright has to parry over the bar.

The ball drops to McAuley about 12 yards out but he can only fire over. There will be at least four minutes of added time.

Bishop's Stortford 5 Basingstoke Town 3 - Cliff Akurang (87 min)

However, it matters little as Stortford go straight up the other end and a cross from the left is headed home by CLIFF AKURANG.

Bishop's Stortford 4 Basingstoke Town 3 - Ashley Miller (og) (86 mins)

Adam Green's corner gets caught in the wind and Ashley Miller, in attempting to head clear at the near post, can only help the ball into the net off the underside of the bar.

Bishop's Stortford 4 Basingstoke Town 2 - Sean Francis (81 min)

That should be game over. Town give away a soft free-kick in the left-back area and it's a good ball in, allowing SEAN FRANCIS to rise above everyone and head home.

Town are enjoying plenty of possession but are struggling the break the hosts down.

SUBSTITUTION - Bishop's Stortford - Josh Fagbohum on for Liam Enver-Marum (79 min)

SUBSTITUTION - Basingstoke Town - Robbie Matthews on for Kezie Ibe (77 min)

SUBSTITUTION - Bishop's Stortford - Jack Edwards on for Andre Costa (75 min)

SUBSTITUTION - Bishop's Stortford - Tommy Fletcher on for Johnny Herd (72 min).

SUBSTITUTION - Basingstoke Town - Simon Dunn on for Jordace Holder-Spooner (72 min)

Holder-Spooner whips in a free-kick from the left and it takes a slight deflection on its way through to Wright. Could have been interesting.

That's a sickening collision between Robbie Rice and Johnny Herd. Both missed the ball and Rice caught the Stortford man in the head. A total accident and no further action. Fortunately, Herd seems to be okay.

Almost another for the hosts but David Ray makes an important challenge and Johnson fires into the side netting.

Bishop's Stortford 3 Basingstoke Town 2 - Andrew Jenkinson (57 min)

A bit of luck for the visitors as ANDREW JENKINSON's attempted ball into the area gets caught up in the wind and flies over Wright into the top corner.

Bishop's Stortford 3 Basingstoke Town 1 - Cliff Akurang (52 min)

Town concede a free-kick in a dangerous area and while Wells saves Matt Johnson's effort, CLIFF AKURANG manages to bundle the loose ball in amid a scramble.

Bishop's Stortford 2 Basingstoke Town 1 - Shaun McAuley (47 min)

That's the perfect start to the second half for the visitors, who score their first Confernce South goal in six weeks.

Kezie Ibe does excellently to control a ball into the area from Holder-Spooner and while Wright makes an excellent save to deny him, SHAUN McAULEY is on hand to volley home the rebound.

Stortford get the second half started. Neither side has made any changes at the break.

Here come the players, back out for the second half. It's raining harder now. A monsoon before 75 minutes and Town might get a reprieve.

It's a really horrible day here. I envy those of you sat at home, or better still, in the pub this afternoon!

It's more bad news elsewhere this afternoon. Reading trail Wigan 2-0 at the break, while Basingstoke RFC went down 23-11 at Dorking.

Oh dear. Looks like Town are sliding towards another defeat.

They should have been at least one up before the hosts went ahead - but that's been the problem of late.

They've looked good going forward but haven't taken their chances, while Stortford have been clinical at the other end.

Bishop's Stortford 2 Basingstoke Town 0

Holder-Spooner whips in a free-kick that the home goalkeeper just about manages to punch clear.

There will be one additional minute at the end of the half.

One pass, from back to front, takes out the whole Town team and Andre Costa is in. His first touch is poor but he recovers well to get a  shot away, firing narrowly wide.

That second goal seems to have killed the game. Town need to get to half-time and regroup.

Bishop's Stortford 2 Basingstoke Town 0 - Liam Enver-Marum (31 min)

Neil Barrett gives the ball away on halfway and one pass has Akurang running at the Town back four. He finds LIAM ENVER-MARUM but it takes a fine finish from the striker, who curls the ball beyond Wells from the left side of the area.

Matt Johnson lets fly from distance, forcing Louis Wells into a smart save. The hosts are finding too much space for shots like that.

Williams plays Holder-Spooner through but the pass sends him wide, making it easier for Wright in the home goal to narrow the angle and make the save.

Bishop's Stortford 1 Basingstoke Town 0 - Liam Enver-Marum (24 min)

A high ball into the area from the left is headed down by Akurang and LIAM ENVER-MARUM takes advantage of some hesitancy in the Town defence to poke home from six yards.

Town give away a free-kick in a bad area but it's a weak effort from Prestledge that is well wide.

McAuley's strong run ends in a shot from 25 yards that the home goalkeeper has to get down and save.

Liam Enver-Marum fires wide from the edge of the area. He had too much time there.

The home side have a big shout for a penalty when Reece Prestledge goes down in the area, but play is waved on.

Another massive chance for Town. This time Williams is through but his effort rolls inches wide.

A good run from Andre Costa wins the hosts a corner, which Matt Johnson heads narrowly wide.

Another big chance for the visitors. Manny Williams plays Kezie Ibe through but Joe Wright is off his line quickly to save at the striker's feet. It's very open at the moment.

Almost a a chance at the other end. Town allow Stortford to cross from the left and it takes a good clearance from Adam Green to clear the danger.

Cliff Akurang then has a shot from the edge of the area, firing over the bar.

Almost the perfect start for Town. Adam Green's cross from the left found its way to Sean McAuley, thanks in part to a defensive slip, and his shot was pushed around the post by Joe Wright in the home goal.

Town get the game under way. They must have lost the toss as they will shoot into the wind in the first half.

Here come the teams.

Bishop's Stortford: Wright, Miller, Allen, Francis, McNaughton, Johnson, Costa, Enver-Marum, Akurang, Prestledge. Subs: Edwards, Adams, Fletcher, Baker, Fagbohum.

Basingstoke Town: Wells, Rice, Green, Barrett, Gasson, Ray, Jenkinson, McAuley, Ibe, Williams, Holder-Spooner. Subs: Daly, Matthews, Adams, Dunn, McDonnell.

There is one change to the Town team, Robbie Rice coming in for the unwell Nathan Smart at right-back.

Still haven't got a teamsheet but Daly remains out with the other subs while the first team are inside making their final preparations. A big call.

I'm still waiting for the tea sheets but from the way Town are warming up, it looks like Town may be naming an unchanged side. If so, it would be an interesting decision to leave captain Wes Daly out.

Good afternoon and welcome to live text commentary from a decidedly soggy ProKit UK Stadium, Bishop's Stortford.

I feared for this game and I'm not sure the pitch could have taken much more rain. It's not coming down any more but the conditions will undoubtedly have an impact.
